The former Masséna Station occupies a strategic position in Left-Bank Paris, one of the major development areas in Paris. Its architecture and location make it a unique pivot point between old and modern Paris.
Standing as a testimony to the railway history of this sector, the station has great potential to become a future focus of activity in the heart of a district that is in the throes of renovation.
The Paris Rive Gauche Development Zone (ZAC) has been ongoing for more than 20 years and embodies the image of a new Latin Quarter. Centred around the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, it includes offices, retail outlets, artistic, cultural and leisure activities, universities, housing and public facilities. The Gare Masséna acts as a pivot for the Masséna-Bruneseau sector, a future district with very tall buildings, and the Tolbiac-Chevaleret sector which is preparing to accommodate the Halle Freyssinet, the world's largest incubator.
The Gare Masséna was built in 1863 and is currently abandoned. It occupies a pivotal position between the old railway belt (la petite ceinture) and the rail network covering slab, and enjoys exceptional visibility from the T3 tram line and the Boulevard du Général Jean Simon.
