At the end of 2014, Anne Hidalgo launched “Reinventing Paris”: a call for innovative urban projects, an unprecedented initiative with international impact. On Tuesday, the Mayor of Paris will launch the second edition, which will explore the potential of Paris’ underground spaces.

Launched in November 2014, the call for innovative urban projects “Reinventing Paris” gave talents from around the world the opportunity to build the Paris of tomorrow. A total of 372 projects were submitted to the City of Paris for 23 different sites. They were developed by multidisciplinary and international teams, bringing together architects, city planners, real estate developers, artists, start-ups, designers, landscape architects and civil society associations.

This call for projects profoundly changed how city planning is approached. Today, the implementation of the winning projects demonstrates just how effective it is. Following on from this success, Anne Hidalgo and Deputy Mayor Jean-Louis Missika have decided to renew this extraordinary competition in 2017.

This second edition takes on a new dimension by focusing on Paris’ underground spaces. It reflects the promise of remarkable and unknown sites that are full of challenges and exceptional potential. It will unite several partners with the City of Paris, including EFIDIS, Paris Habitat, RATP, Renault, the RIVP and SNCF, who have accepted to participate in this original approach to urban renewal.
